Anyone retiring in 2024 at age 65 probably shouldn't have less than a 2 million household nest egg backed by social security or a pension in order to retain a mid middle class lifestyle and probably-ish not go broke before they croke. If you're now just starting out in your career then 40 years from now due to inflation that'll be about an 8 million minimum nest egg. If you're going to save at least $3500/month for every month of that 40 year period it's probably achievable, but likely isn't realistic for the typical person just starting out and those early dollars are the most impactful. One of the most common professions coming out of school, an associate RN, will make ~75,000/year. They'd have to save 56% of their income. A failure to commit those early dollars may mean that orders of magnitude more than $3500/month would need to be committed later. In any case, who wants to work full time for 40 years anyway? Have fun kids. Of course, if your spouse is pulling their savings weight equally then 28% each is far more manageable. You may not want no scrub to riff off TLC, but as of 2024 you can't afford a scrub whether you want em or not. The cost of living relative to income is getting to the point that we're back to marrying for money out of necessity.

I have met a lot of cfps who are morons. They are in it just to make money off of you. They spoil the reputation of the profession that is practiced also by people who really care about their profession and their clients. For someone who is not financially educated, it is really difficult to see through their bull shit. 😢

Considering how volatile the stock market is right now, I think investors should focus on cheap stocks. Of my $270k portfolio, 35% consists of formerly well-regarded stocks that are currently experiencing a sharp decrease. I have no idea how to escape this awful circumstance.

I agree that there are strategies that could be put in place for solid gains regardless of economy or market condition, but such executions are usually carried out by investment experts or advisors with experience.

Many people minimise the importance of counsel until their own feelings become overwhelming. A few summers ago, following a protracted divorce, I needed a significant push to keep my firm solvent. I looked for licenced advisors and found someone with the highest qualifications. She has contributed to my reserve increasing from $275k to $850k despite inflation.

IMO a leveraged ETF such as TQQQ isn't a decades long hold. I see it as an opportunity bet during a significant market pullback. Even then, I'd contribute no more than 3%-4% of my portfolio to that position which I would sell out of and into more stable positions once the market eventually returned to all time highs.

Hey Humphrey! Been subbed since the new year. Just wanted to ask - I have started a new job recently and I’m wondering if it’s worth rolling over my trad 401k balance in my trad IRA or rolling this over into my new company’s 401k plan. For added clarity, I have enough money in the account to also keep it opened with my previous company, obviously with a fee. I only have investments in the S&P 500 for my IRA accounts. Just not sure how to tackle my new venture - any help is appreciated.

Another great video, thanks! I think the market is over-heated. And I am concerned that people are focusing less on fundamentals and just chanting the mantra of dollar cost averaging and driving the market higher without considering fundamentals. It is a catch-22 for me. I mean I like stock prices going higher but I also hate buying over-priced stocks and ETFs. Personally, I have stopped buying growth ETFs- they are ridiculously over-valued. Dividend stocks and ETFs are a little better but they are still over-valued. There is some hope with small and mid caps. I am not sure they are undervalued but at least they are less over-valued..This pattern offers a valuable insight for strategic planning. Despite these trends, i have delve deeply into active trading and managed to grow a nest egg of around 100k to a decent 432k in the space of a few months... I'm especially grateful to Francine Duguay, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape

We are late 50’s, 2.5M net worth, our home will be paid off by 62, and plan to retire @ 65. Anticipate net worth will be 3.5M by retirement age. Our current investment rate is 35% of gross income. I know these numbers sound good to most people, but the closer we get to retirement, the more concerned we are about making wise financial choices. We were late bloomers with regard to investing. I wish we would have started younger.

5 million dollar net worth before you can buy a business or first class ticket? 22 hours in coach on an overseas flight is rough. I might have to disagree on that one.

Maybe you only meant first class and not business class.

I hate saving. Too much money i want to go blow. If i have more than 100 dollars i just go blow it at the casino or something so i work as little as i can to get exactly what i need for bills

My grandmother told me she bought her house for 25k 60 years ago. The home is now worth $1.5 million. Had she took the 25k and put it in the sp500 she would have 7.5 million. Of course she would of had to pay rent all that time but even if he rent was 3k a month which it would not have been (probably closer to 200 for first 20 years) she’d still be ahead by 5 million and that does not even account for home maintenance and property tax she paid by owning. Bottom line is a home is not a good investment. You should not buy a home as an investment you should buy it because it allows you to settle and it’s convenient. But don’t overestimate the importance. The important thing is keep investing as much as you can into the sp500 and you’ll be fine. 100% of people who put 10% of their earnings into the sp500 died millionaires.
